Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming Shabbat)

When

February 27, 2026
7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Led by Michael Margolin

We’re honored to welcome very special guests to our Shabbat service this week — Jewish students and their allies from Jewish Voice for Peace at Cornell and Students for Justice in Palestine at Ithaca College. Many of these students don’t feel welcome in other Jewish spaces on campus or in Ithaca. TvO holds a diversity of beliefs around Israel, Palestine, and Zionism, and we’re committed to creating space for students whose views aren’t welcome elsewhere. We’re glad to offer them a place to pray, connect, and be part of Jewish community.  The students will be offering a dvar torah on Parashat Tetzaveh and leading parts of our service.

This week’s portion speaks of the ner tamid, the eternal flame that must burn continuously—a flame that requires tending, the right fuel, and care. It asks us: What keeps us going? What sustains movements, communities, and individuals through hard times? The portion also tells us that Aaron carries the names of all twelve tribes on his shoulders and over his heart—a powerful image of collective responsibility and remembrance. Who do we carry with us? Who are we responsible for?

These are important questions for this moment. We’ll come together to sing, pray, connect, and ground ourselves as we navigate the big challenges before us. This is a chance to fill our spiritual cups in community, to learn from our young guests’ courage and commitment, and to hold each other close.

Most Shabbat services are held in person at Tikkun v’Or and on Zoom. Contact info@tikkunvor.org for more information and links.
