SUMMARY:Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming Shabbat)
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nSHABBAT WITH RABBI GILA COLMAN RUSKIN\n\n\n\nFriday eveni
ng\, May 15\, 7:30 pm  Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming Shabbat)\n\nHaving rec
ently returned from a mission to the villages of the Abayudaya Jews in Uga
nda\, Rabbi Gila is looking forward to speaking about this transformationa
 l adventure.\n\nSaturday\, May 16\, 10 am Community Mosaic Project\n\nRabb
i Gila will also facilitate a community mosaic project for us on Saturday
morning\n\nWe will be creating a “crest” of our congregation with the
word Tikkun (Healing) as an assemblage of silver toned and iridescent tess
erae donated by our congregants and from Rabbi Gila’s collection. The b
ackground will be Or (pulsating light) composed of stained glass and repur
posed glass tiles.\n\nAnyone above the age of 5 can participate.\n\n\n\nRa
bbi Gila Colman Ruskin is a rabbi\, educator\, and artist whose work in Mo
saic Midrash invites participants to explore sacred text through creativit
y\, reflection\, and transformation. Her practice brings beauty and wholen
ess from what is broken or discarded\, offering fresh and deeply personal
pathways into Jewish learning.\n\nRabbi Gila’s poetry appears on Ritualw
ell\, and she is a regular contributor to the CCAR newsletter as part of i
ts team of Torah commentators.\n\nNow retired from the pulpit and living i
n Philadelphia\, Rabbi Gila previously served for ten years as rabbi of Te
mple Adas Shalom in Havre de Grace\, Maryland\, and for fifteen years as t
he founding rabbi of a Conservative congregation in Baltimore. Her wide-ra
nging career has included teaching\, chaplaincy\, and interfaith leadershi
p\, as well as leading teen journeys to Poland and Israel.\n\nDeeply shape
d by her experience as a caregiver for her mother\, who lived to 102\, Rab
bi Gila also offers caregiver coaching grounded in compassion and spiritua
l insight. She and her husband\, Paul\, cherish time with their children a
nd grandchildren.\n\nMore information about Rabbi Gila is HERE.\n\nSalvage
Your Treasures\n\nIn the next few weeks\, salvage your unused jewelry (si
 ngle earrings\, Grandma’s brooch\, cufflinks\, never-worn long-ago gifts
) and thrift shop finds\, and bring them to the temple on May 16th. For ou
r purpose: assembling the crest of Tikkun\, these are invaluable and preci
ous.  Each of your donations will be integrated into the design. If you c
annot attend on May 16 but would like to contribute jewelry\, a box for do
nations will be in the TvO lobby.\n\n\n\nMost Shabbat services are held in
person at Tikkun v’Or and on Zoom. Contact info@tikkunvor.org for mor
 e information and links.
