SUMMARY:Writing an Ethical Will
DESCRIPTION:What is an Ethical Will and How Do I Write it?\n\nThere will be
two sessions with Rabbi Lenore Bohm:\n\n Thursday\, November 7\, 7-8:30
pm at TVO\n Wednesday\, November 13\, 7-8:30 pm at TVO\n\nA Last Will and
Testament transfers possessions and assets. Ethical Wills are designed to
pass on wisdom or "spiritual wealth." Their antecedents are found in the
Torah\, in Jacob’s parting words to his children and in Moses’ farewel
l address to the Israelite people. Ethical Wills were commonly written in
medieval times when Jewish life was precarious and parents weren’t certa
in that they would live to teach their children the most important ideas t
hat animated their lives. One doesn't need to be “religious” or at an
elderly age to compose a meaningful Ethical Will\; it should be written in
your own style(it should sound like you)\, and it can be revised over tim
 e. It is a gift you can leave to those who live on after you (those you kn
ow and generations to come)\, and it is a tool for discerning\, at this po
int in your life\, what matters most to you.\n\n* Ideally\, plan to atten
d both sessions. But if you miss one\, it will still be worthwhile!
